Isaiah 53:11 — presence/absence of אור (“light”)

A reusable research record with provenance and relationships kept separate from the presentation layer.

TEXTUAL_VARIANTVAR_ISA_53_11_LIGHT

Evidence state: documented fact

1QIsaᵃ is reported with אור (“light”) after “he will see,” while the Masoretic/WLC form represented locally lacks אור. v51 records the attested difference and does not declare which reading is original.

Competing interpretations

Classification: disputed interpretation

Note: The longer reading is adopted by many textual critics/translations and has multiple ancient witnesses; the Archive does not convert that scholarly judgment into an automatic “original text” declaration.

What this does not establish

The variant record does not prove which reading is original.
The Great Isaiah Scroll reading is not substituted for the local WLC/OSHB edition.
No GRCLXX token alignment to the Hebrew scroll is asserted.
Scope boundary: John Meade’s article also lists 1QIsaᵇ, 4QIsaᵈ and Greek evidence, but v51 links only the already cataloged 1QIsaᵃ entity as direct manuscript evidence. Those additional witnesses require their own evidence entities/records before graph linkage.
Variation unit

Recorded readings

No originality judgment: This object records the variation unit and evidence relationships without choosing an original reading.
